Who is Madison CandleWorks?

We are a small, family-owned company based in beautiful Madison, Alabama. Founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Ronald (Ronnie) Colvin, himself a native Alabamian and successful technology engineer and executive, we set out to provide an exclusive hand-made product to the business community and to the public at large.

Making candles was initially a hobby when he started in 2002, as a way to relax and distance his mind from the pressures of the networking technology industry. As he couldn't keep everything he made, he began giving away his candles to coworkers, family, and friends who kept on asking "Can I buy more of these from you??" - and a small business was born.

It was decided early-on that we would never be a large business. By limiting our production to only a few thousand candles each year, we could keep the service personal and the quality of the product top-notch. We decided on using soy wax for our candles for several reasons, some of them because of the properties of the wax itself, but also the political and economic issues surrounding petroleum based paraffin wax or Malaysian palm wax just didn't coincide with our core beliefs. By using naturally renewable soy wax, we can be reasonably certain that we help the American farmer and not the petroleum industry with its interest in Middle Eastern oil fields. By purchasing our supplies like soy wax, glass containers, fragrance oils, etc from local companies whenever we could, we help our community and state economies as much as possible.
